16 DAYS CLASSIC WILDLIFE SAFARI-TOUR ITINERARY

Day1.

Arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will then be picked up your guide and will be transferred to your overnight accommodation in Kampala.

Accommodation: Villa Kololo.

Day2.

0730hrs

After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide; here you will begin your tour of Kampala. You will visit all the Kampala attractions including; the Uganda Museum, Bahai temple, Namirembe Cathedral (Oldest & larges church in Uganda), Ghaddafi Mosque (Largest Mosque), the Kabaka`s Palace, Kabaka`s Parliament, On-foot market visit and later visit on of the fishing villages.

You will end the day with a Tilapia Meal at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Later you will be driven back to your accommodation.

Accommodation: Villa Kololo.

Activities: Kampala City Tour.

Day3.

0730hrs

Early morning after your breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Jinja for a source of the Nile Visit, Enroute will be a mini walk in Mabira Forest.

Later after lunch, you will hit the road to arrive in Sipi with a visit to Itanda Waterfalls Enroute.

On arrival, you will head for the sunset viewpoint for spectacular views of the sunset. Later you will check into your accommodation for your dinner & overnight.

Accommodation: Sipi River Lodge.

Activities: Source of the Nile visit, Mabira Forest walk, Itanda waterfalls visit, sunset views.

Driving time: Upto 6hrs.

Day4.

0700hrs-0800hrs

After your breakfast, you will visit the three waterfalls in Sipi with a local guide from the area; thereafter you will return to the Lodge for Lunch.

After lunch, you will head out for a coffee tour; here you will meet with one of the local Arabica coffee farmers who will take you through the process of how coffee ends up in your cup.

You will during this our visit a coffee plantation, explore coffee as crop and later the processing and drinking experience of the final product.

Later you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of Sipi plus spectacular views of the sunset and thereafter return to the Lodge for your dinner and overnight.

Day5.

Early morning, after breakfast & with lunch Enroute you will embark on a journey to Kidepo Valley National Park.

 Kidepo Valley National Park; is a 1,442 square kilometres national park in the Karamoja region in northeast Uganda. Kidepo is rugged savannah, dominated by the 2,750 metres Mount Morungole and transected by the Kidepo and Narus rivers.

On arrival, you will check into your accommodation for dinner & overnight.

Accommodation: Kidepo Savannah Lodge.

Driving time: Upto 6.5hrs.

Day6.

0600hrs

With an early breakfast, you will begin your morning game drive.

On your morning game drive expect to encounter numerous wildlife i.e. birds, reptiles, animals etc.

Depending on how long your game drive takes, you will return to your accommodation for lunch.

After lunch, you do an afternoon game drive; for this particular game drive expect to encounter with the same wildlife as was during the morning game drive, even much better plus more that was not seen in the morning.

Later, depending on what else you see and how long the game drive takes, you will return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight.

 Day7.

After breakfast and with lunch Enroute, you will embark on a journey to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home of the Rhinos.

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary; is a private, non-profit, animal sanctuary in Uganda. It proudly harbours Uganda`s endangered Rhinos.

On arrival, you will check into your accommodation for your dinner and overnight.

 Accommodation: Amuka Lodge.

Day8.

0700hrs.

With breakfast, you will star your day with a quick briefing to start your On-foot Rhino tracking.

Heated with the tragic history, fear, and excitement, we followed a ranger on foot to track down our first white rhinos.

After the tracking you will embark on a journey to Murchison Falls National Park.

Murchison Falls National Park: Covering an area of 3,893 km² this particular park sits s on the shore of Lake Albert, in northwest Uganda. It’s known for Murchison Falls, where the Victoria Nile River surges through a narrow gap over a massive drop.

On arrival, you will have a quick lunch and thereafter do a boat cruise on the Nile.

Expect to see numerous wildlife during this experience i.e. reptiles, animals and birds etc.

You will after this experience be dropped at the bottom of the falls; here you will meet with your ranger who will guide you through the hike to the top of Murchison Falls.

At the top, you will share photo moments and thereafter meet with your driver/guide who will transfer you to the lodge for your dinner and overnight.

Accommodation: Murchison River Lodge.

Activities: On-foot Rhino tracking, Boat Cruise on the Nile, hike to the top falls.

Driving time: 3.5hrs.

Day9.

0600hrs.

With packed breakfast, you will hit the road for your morning game drive in the park.

Expect to encounter numerous wildlife i.e. animals, birds and reptiles and depending on how long the drive takes and what you see, you will embark on a journey to Kibale National Park.

Kibale National Park; is a national park in Western Uganda, protecting moist evergreen rain forest. It is 766 square kilometres in size and is located between 1,100 metres to 1,600 metres in elevation, this forest is known for harbouring primates e.g.  the Chimpanzees & black and white colobus monkeys, numerous bird species and Forest elephants.

On arrival, you will check into your accommodation for your dinner and overnight.

Accommodation: Turaco treetops.

Activities: Early Morning Game drive.

Driving time: Upto 7hrs.

 Day10.

0900hrs.

Breakfast Spend morning at leisure.

Later after lunch, you will head for the briefing area; here you will begin your Chimpanzee trekking activity.

Expect to see numerous wildlife i.e. primates, birds etc watch out for special encounters of the forest elephants.

Later after the trekking, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Activities: Chimpanzee trekking.

Day 11.

0900hrs.

After breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Queen Elizabeth National Park: Occupying an area of 1,978 km², this National Park is located in Fort Portal-Mpondwe Road, Rubirizi. It was established in 1952 and named after Queen Elizabeth II.

On arrival, you will have lunch and thereafter do an afternoon boat Cruise on the famous Kazinga Channel; in Uganda is a wide, 32-kilometre long natural channel that links Lake Edward and Lake George, and a dominant feature of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Depending on What you see, you will return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight.

Accommodation: Simba Safari Camp.

Activities: Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel.

Driving time: Upto 3.5hrs.

Day12.

0600hrs.

Early morning, with a cup of coffee, you hit the road to drive to Katunguru gate, Queen Elizabeth National Park; here you will meet with your Local Guide who will take you through your Experiential game Drive.

Depending on how long the drive takes, you will break for a Rolex Meal and thereafter return to the lodge to freshen up and later embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park: The park is a sanctuary for colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, and many birds such as hornbills and turacos. It is most notable for the 400 Bwindi gorillas, half of the world’s population of the endangered mountain gorillas. 14 habituated mountain gorilla groups are open to tourism in four different sectors of Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and the Nkuringo in the Districts of Kanungu, Kabale and Kisoro respectively all under the management of Uganda Wildlife Authority.

 On arrival, you will check into your accommodation for your dinner and overnight.

After breakfast you will attend briefing and thereafter begin your gorilla trekking experience; this might last you about 3-6hrs.

After the trekking, you will return to the Lodge for your lunch.

After lunch, you will spend the afternoon/evening at leisure and thereafter you will have your dinner and overnight.

Activities: Gorilla Trekking.

Day14.

After breakfast you will embark on a journey to Lake Mburo National Park.

Lake Mburo National Park; is a national park located in western Uganda in Lyantonde covering an area of 260 km²

On arrival, you will check into your accommodation for dinner & overnight.

Accommodation: Rwakobo Rock

After breakfast, you will do morning game; expect to see numerous wildlife from the Rothschild Giraffe to Zebras to different bird species.

Depending on how long the experience takes, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

After the experience, you will return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight.

 IS UGANDA A SAFE COUNTRY TO VISIT?

Regardless of its history, Uganda is a safe safari destination and you will always be warmly welcomed considering the friendly gesture of the biggest percentage of residents.

 While in Kampala, all traveler’s security is guaranteed making it one of the safest capital cities in Eastern Africa.

A Vast number of destinations/touristic sites are registered in and out of the city and are all protected by the Ugandan government. For majority of the National Parks in Uganda, Uganda Wildlife Authority boasts of extraordinary security measures that have been employed throughout the years to guarantee all our visitors/tourists’ safety.   

There are selected routes designated by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to be taken while visitors travel and visit different destinations and are always well maintained in selected periods of the year, this guarantees road safety for all intending travelers.

IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE A UGANDAN VISA AND HOW DO I GET ONE?

Yes, you require a valid Ugandan Tourist Visa to enter the country at any entry point plus a travel document valid for at least 6 months. There are 2 (two) options availed to travelers for attaining a valid Ugandan Visa, Online and upon arrival.

WHICH INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES CAN I USE TO UGANDA?

Several international airlines fly to Uganda – these include – Brussels Airlines, KLM, as well as Turkish Airlines, all of which fly to Entebbe. International carriers from Europe connect with most North American carriers. Other African Airlines include Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Egypt air and South African Airways. From the Middle East and South East Asia, check with Emirates or Qatar Air.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR TO VISIT UGANDA?

Uganda can be visited any time of the year, owing to its location next to the Equator; the country generally has cool temperatures with a period of rainy and sunny season.

A dry season is from December/January till mid-March and from June till mid-September. These months are also most popular with tourists, with July and August as the peak season.

Most rain falls in are October-November and April-May. However, this doesn’t mean that it rains all day. Usually it is a tropical shower at night or shortly during the day, but in Uganda you can trust that after rain there comes sunshine! The weather is no reason to avoid travelling in the wet season.

Like in the rest of the world, climates seem to be changing and make it more difficult for us to predict the weather during your safari. On the contrary, the temperature is very stable and pleasant, with sunshine 365 days a year. During the day the temperature averages between 23 and 27°C, though in some places It can get cold at night.

The incredible aspect about coming to Uganda is, whether you travel in the dry or in wet season, the climate is still categorized under pleasant weather.

ARE THERE VACCINATIONS REQUIRED FOR MY VISIT TO UGANDA?

Vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory, as well as a cholera stamp in your vaccination passport. Other different types of vaccinations as, Immunizations against DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio) and Hepatitis A are recommended as well and we also advise you to take malaria prevention medications, besides bringing mosquito repellent with you.

IS IT TRUE THAT I CAN SEE TREE CLIMBING LIONS ON MY UGANDA SAFARI?Lions are not known for this feature of climbing trees like their brothers in the cat family the leopards. But our drivers and rangers are very experienced and will try their best to locate game while on a safari game drive. Chances of missing out on animals are about 1%. Gorillas and chimps have a 99% chance of seeing them.

WHAT KIND OF SAFARI VEHICLES DO YOU OFFER FOR TRAVEL?
We offer tailor-made safaris for every number of participants. No minimum number is required, but of course the more people the more attractive the price will be.

All our safaris cars are 4x4s with pop-up tops suitable for a 360 degrees game viewing for travelers during game drives, which gives a deeper safari experience.

Our comfortable 4×4 Land Cruisers offer seats for 1-6 people and besides the Land Cruisers we also own several 4WD minibuses which can take a maximum of 6 – 8 people and more people who would like to travel in one vehicle are offered 25-29 seat Coaster buses that have approximately 16 window seats.

Overland trucks and fourteen-seater minibuses are available on request. But the type of safari Vehicle will totally depend on client’s choice of vehicle.

However, to ensure that everybody has a window seat and luggage can be stored well, we usually don’t take more than 7 people in these safari vehicles.

DO YOUR DRIVERS SPEAK ENGLISH?
Yes, all our driver guides speak English but can also give you another language speaking guide depending on request from the travellers who may not understand English. It’s very advisable for the traveller to inform us in advance for any language comfortable with on your safari.

The roads are usually narrower and rough. This increases the driving times and makes the route look longer.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO DO THE GORILLA TRACKING IN UGANDA?
Yes, it’s possible and you are required to buy a gorilla permit.  This must be done three months before your safari as only eight people are allowed per day at each gorilla group, the demand is high. Of course, we would be happy to assist you with this; all we need to know is the preferred date. In order to be able to buy the gorilla permit you have to provide us with your full names, nationality and passport number. A certain level of fitness is not required for the gorilla tracking, though you will be refused on the tracking when you are sick. Also note that the minimum age for visiting the gorillas is 15 years.

HOW DO I BOOK FOR A GORILLA PERMIT?
It’s advisable to book your gorilla permit as soon as possible to be on a safe side. Make sure that once you have purchased your permit a scan copy is sent to your email to be sure.  Permits are sold up to 2 years in advance!

IS THERE A REQUIRED DRESSING CODE FOR GORILLA TRACKING?

Mountain gorilla trekking adventure can be wet and hot work. Hence the need to carry both a waterproof jackets and a backpack to hold essentials like binoculars and cameras. Trekking can sometimes be through thick vegetation with thorns and climbing steep terrain. It’s advised to have good hiking shoes, long trousers, long sleeved shirts, sun cream, sunglasses, gloves, walking stick and a hat.

HOW MUCH IS A GORILLA TREKKING PERMIT?

In order to trek gorillas in any of the national parks in Uganda, one needs a gorilla tracking permit. The gorilla permit cost $700.00 in Uganda, giving you permission to track gorillas in Bwindi and Mgahinga national parks with a one-hour interaction with the gorillas.

IS TREKKING GORILLAS IN THE FOREST NOT DANGEROUS, ARE GORILLAS FRIENDLY TO PEOPLE?

Most of the clients doing the gorilla trekking safari for the first time have this question in mind and find it nervous to do the trek. But the truth is the gorillas are gentle giants which have been habituated to human presence. Not on any of our safaris has any client got any harm from the gorillas.  

 IF I WANT TO BRING MY CHILDREN WITH ME ON SAFARI, ARE THERE ACTIVITIES FOR THEM TO DO WHILE I GO GORILLA AND CHIMP TRACKING?
Most Lodges and Parks have games and activities that will keep children occupied while parents are tracking. Lodges can usually provide a sitter to watch children while parents are busy. Ugandans generally love children and are very good with them. The driver guides are no exception. You will find that they will develop a good relationship with your children! They could take children on short, easy, guided walks or stay with them in the vehicle or Lodge (whatever you desire) while you go on longer outings.

ARE ATM CARDS OR CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED IN UGANDA?
Unfortunately there are only a few banks that accept ATM cards or Visa credit cards for money withdrawal. Mastercard’s not widely accepted.

Therefore, we advise you to bring cash and have money changed upon arrival in Kampala. Both US dollars and Euros are easy to change, though for some expenses, like the payment of visa, it is easier to have dollars available.

Important: US dollars bills from the year 1999 and below are NOT accepted!

WHEN DO I PAY FOR MY SAFARI?
Once you confirmed the final itinerary with us, you will be requested to pay a deposit of 30% for the safari. In case gorilla tracking is included in the program we also ask you to make a full prepayment for the gorilla permits. Note that availability of accommodations and permits is not guaranteed until officially confirmed by us. Reservations will be made as soon as the payment has been received on our account.

We accept payment by VISA credit card (please include 5% service charge) and bank transfer in either dollars or euros to our bank account in Uganda. Please note that all bank charges are at the expense of the client. The balance of 70% should be paid upon arrival, BEFORE the start of your safari. Regretfully we cannot accept traveler cheques as of now. The balance can be paid by VISA or in cash in dollars, euros or Ugandan shillings.

WE ARE A BIT NERVOUS TRANSFERRING LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY TO A SAFARI COMPANY THAT WE HAVE NOT DEALT WITH BEFORE. WHAT ASSURANCES CAN YOU GIVE US?
We recommend that you refer to Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Tourist Board, the Ugandan Ministry of Tourism or the Ugandan High Commission in your country of residence for a recommendation concerning our reputation.

WHAT IS INCLUDED, /EXCLUDED IN THE PRICE FOR MY SAFARI?
All mentioned prices are inclusive of :
   – ground transport per comfortable 4WD safari vehicle
   – visit to all mentioned places in the program
   – the service of an experienced English speaking driver/guide
   – national park entrance fees
   – activities that are mentioned in the itinerary, except for the optional      activities
   – overnight in the mentioned accommodations, based on a twin or double      room
   – full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
   – bottled mineral water of 2 liters per person per day in the vehicle
   – government taxes
   – ranger fees

Not included are:
   – international flight
   – visa (available at the airport)
   – meals and snacks that are not mentioned in the itinerary
    – beverages other than the bottled mineral water in the safari vehicle
   – tips and gratuities for the guides
   – laundry
   – gorilla permit
   – optional activities that are mentioned in the program
   – items of personal nature
   – travel insurance
   – international transaction costs

WHAT ARE THE TIPPING GUIDELINES?
Of course a tip fully depends on the level of your satisfaction, there is no fixed rate in tipping in the country but even a small amount to show your gratitude will be highly appreciated. On average tips are in the range of 5-10% in restaurants; US$5-10 per day, per client for safari driver/guides and US$5-10 per client per day for Ranger Guides; US$5 per day for porters on mountaineering/hiking safaris and US$3-5 for Forest Walk guides.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY GORILLA PERMIT AND SAFARI?

You are advice to book the gorilla permits about 3 months before your gorilla tour. This is because the gorilla permits are on a high demand and run out easily everyday especially in the high seasons. To avoid shortage, you should book earlier.
